Sales of certain items are exempt during a five-day period in August 2018. The temporary exemption period, referred to as a sales tax holiday, will begin on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, and continue through Sunday, August 5, 2018.
During the Sales Tax Holiday, purchases of these items are not taxable:

Clothing – sales price of each item must be $ 75 or less

Computer purchased by a consumer for their personal use – sales price of each computer must be $ 750 or less

School computer supplies purchased by the consumer for their personal use – sales price of each item must be $ 250 or less

Some Newegg customers are getting hit with tax bills for past purchases. I just came to know about this through a SD member. I did further research and wanted to share the information here.

As you probably noticed, for years many ecommerce sites did not charge customers sales tax for online orders. The onus fell on the buyer to report purchases and pay any applicable taxes, but there did not seem to be any repercussion for not doing so. For the most part, state agencies focused their attention on online vendors, not online shoppers.

Fry’s has a weekly ad showing sale prices on TV’s along with further discounts if you sign up for a promo code. Along the top banner of the ad states that We Pay Sales Tax with Promo Code on ALL 4K TV’s excluding Clearance and Doorbusters.

I visited Fry’s to buy a new 4K TV that was listed on last weeks ad. The sales rep stated that the TV I wanted was not included in the no sales tax offer. I noted the ad that said ALL 4K TV’s. The store manager agreed and gave the discount but said he believes it is a mis-print and would put a disclaimer up in the store for further sales.
