The Cleer Next was initially marketed as a competitor to the Sennheiser HD800s. Clear managed to develop a sound signature that was close to that of the HD800s while "fixing" issues in the low end and pulling some of the high end sibilance out. Their big selling point was the price tag being a fraction of the headphones that they intended on competing against.
