7Cr17MoV is a budget stainless steel that is very corrosion resistant, easy to sharpen, takes a good edge, but won’t hold that edge forever. Gerber used 7Cr17MoV in a lot of it’s knives. It’s not a garbage steel, especially at this price point, but it’s a budget steel that is barely good enough (IMHO) for non-knife folks and people who want something okay that won’t break the bank. You will need to sharpen it up often if you use it a lot. Yes, if you want to spend $ 25-$ 30 you can get a better knife, but we all know that. SMKW.com is a reputable seller whom I have bought from many times and received excellent service from.
